Stylistically Dubucs most important clock in particular and all GW clocks generally, one of the greatest icons in all of American Decorative Arts

Shows his oeuvre palate of design options

Some precedent for this design (see pic of other clock)

Almost too over the top, can imagine the conversation: “Give me a telescope, throw in a protractor, I’d like a pedestal with a globe”

GW figure is a shortie and gets lost in the all the stuff (Honey I Shrunk George), lacks stature/presence

Base is too high

That’s said, it’s an amazing piece and has incredible presence

Machine turned dial brings together all the metal craft elements

Smart choice not going with the white enameled dial, would simply look cheap and out of place

One of two known Washington clocks with engraved dials

Yale/Garvan records on provenance

Brings together all of the bronzier’s palate
